Camp Highlights
Opening of the Elvira Narr Memorial Garden and new camping season set for January 3rd, 2010
January 3rd, 2010 - We are please to announce the opening of Elvira Narr Memorial Gardens and new camping season for 2010! Four years ago we opened the camp and also announced the concept of a park that we wanted to create called Elvira Narr Memorial Gardens (Bosque Memorial Elvira Narr in Spanish). William Mejia, camp committee member and spearheaded of this project and shared at the camp's opening in January 2006 about Mark 8:22-26 with those attending. In this passage is one of the many accounts of Jesus healing blind people. In this account, Jesus used his own saliva to touch the man's eyes, and when the man could first see, all the people looked liked trees walking around. William used this as a point of departure to talk about how planting a tree in honor of a loved one living or who past away is a living reminder of the everlasting life of Jesus Christ in that person even though, in the case of memorial trees, this person will have left this earth to be with the Lord.
You may ask, "How can I get involved with this project?" There are three ways you may get involved:
1. Continue to pray for the Holy Spirit's outpouring on the camp and the use of this Memorial Garden for God's glory. Elvira Narr was the camp director's grandmother and she loved the Lord, loved the work of the church, and she also loved gardening. It was William's idea to honor her in this special way.
2. Purchase a tree. They've already been planted, but a few are left to donate. The main tree for this purpose is from the cypress family, called an aucaria tree, but there are also some other beautiful varieties available in the entrance path that can also be donated and highlighted in the directory that will be placed at a beautiful lookout sight at the entrance to this park. Suggested donation - $500. In the directory, we will place the name of the person being honored and the name(s) or family name of those who donated the tree. How to donate - send your donation and the pertinent information to P.O. Box 392, Hutchinson, MN 55350. You can also use the "contact us" page on this website to give the information as well.
3. Come and Join us on January 3rd, 2010 in Costa Rica. We have space in our mission house so make your plane reservation, and we'll provide transportation for you to and from the airport. On this day, we will tour the entryway and see the new outdoor amphitheater with special music and a children's choir scheduled to sing.
God bless you for helping us make projects like this a reality!
